Clair is a digital banking app (just like Venmo, Chime, or CashApp) that is connected to time and attendance systems. Employees become eligible for wage advances by setting it as one of their direct deposit accounts. After they clock out of work, they are able to take an advance based on the number of hours they worked that day. They then pay Clair back on payday once they receive their paycheck onto their Clair bank account.

The short answer is -- almost nothing! If Clair is already integrated with your time and attendance platform, all you need to do is promote Clair to your employees to start seeing the benefits. To do this, you can sign up for Clair for Employers in order to get resources like posters and canned email templates that you can then send to your staff. You don't need to make changes to your payroll process.

Clair has no impact and does not require any changes to your payroll process. When an employee signs up for Clair, they open a new bank account. To be eligible for wage advances, your employees must update their direct deposit to their new Clair Spending Account in your payroll system. When you process payroll, you send your employee’s paychecks to their new Clair Spending Account.

Clair takes on all the risk and liability in providing wage advances for your employees. In the event that there is an issue with repayment on wage advances, Clair will bear that loss.

Clair has no impact on your business’ cash flow. Wage advances and repayments are handled within the Clair app environment. When you process payroll, your employee’s paychecks are deposited into their new Clair Spending Account. Once it lands in their account, Clair will deduct the amount of wage advances taken by the employee.

Employees can advance 50% of their gross wages, up to the amount of the last paycheck that was deposited. If you don't input the gross wages into your time and attendance system, Clair defaults to the state's minimum wage.

After signing up for Clair, employees receive a Clair Debit Mastercard®. When employees make purchases with the Clair Debit Mastercard®, Clair gets a portion of the fee that merchants (e.g. shops, restaurants, etc.) pay to Mastercard. This way, we never charge you or your employees for taking wage advances.

Clair is partnered with a bank and has bank-grade levels of security and encryption.

No, time & attendance hours do not need to be approved for your employees to take wage advances. If changes are made to an employee’s timesheet after the employee has taken a wage advance and that advanced amount exceeds what should have been available to them, Clair will deduct the outstanding amount from the next paycycle.
